Subaru Corporation Considers Introducing
U.S.-Built Three-Row SUV to the Japanese Market
June 6, 2026 – Subaru Corporation announced that it is considering the introduction of its U.S.-built three-row SUV (known as the Ascent in North America and Evoltis in other markets), to the Japanese market, targeting a potential launch in the latter half of 2026. Subaru plans to leverage the certification system implemented by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism following Japan-U.S. trade agreement. By introducing this U.S.-built three-row midsize SUV to Japan, Subaru aims to meet a wide range of customer needs.

This model, designed for family-oriented customers, is built at Subaru’s U.S. manufacturing facility, Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc., and has been sold primarily in the U.S. since 2018. It emphasizes the functionality expected of an SUV while offering exterior and interior design with commanding presence. As the largest vehicle in Subaru’s current lineup, it offers spacious interior space and a range of versatile features, allowing the whole family to enjoy the journey. Moreover, the Subaru Global Platform delivers high body rigidity, contributing a quiet and comfortable ride by effectively suppressing vibration and noise.
The vehicle also incorporates Subaru core technologies, such as EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive powered by 2.4-liter Boxer direct fuel injection turbo engine, and X-Mode, which enhances SUV capability.
Subaru will continue to advance its consideration of introducing this SUV to the Japanese market.
