Human Rights Business Outreach Class at a High School in Tokyo

On January 31, 2025, SUBARU held an outreach class on the SUBARU Group’s respect for human rights at Tokyo Metropolitan Tachikawa High School. This initiative was held as part of the Participatory and Experiential Human Rights Classroom project by the Tokyo Legal Affairs Bureau, primarily targeting elementary through high school students.

On the day of the class, participating first and second-year students from the school discussed potential human rights issues for the SUBARU Group within the supply chain in a workshop format. After each group presented their findings, employees from SUBARU’s Global Purchasing Planning Department and Sustainability Promotion Department explained the SUBARU Group’s approach, specific initiatives, and actual challenges faced in respecting human rights.
Participating students shared feedback such as “It was a very valuable experience to consider why human rights must be respected and what we must do. I will value eliminating the possibility that I am complicit in not respecting human rights,” “It taught me a perspective that will be important when I join a company,” and “I realized that today’s world needs not just outward appearance, but genuine protection of the human rights of everyone involved with companies.” By understanding the SUBARU Group’s initiatives, participants recognized the importance of respecting human rights in business, linking it to their own desired future paths.

The SUBARU Group places people first, believing that respect for the rights and characteristics of individuals is an important management issue. Furthermore, the SUBARU Group’s manufacturing (Monozukuri) is supported by an extremely large number of people working in multilayered supply chains, and we have contact with a variety of people in areas such as marketing, sales, and after-sales service through distributors and dealerships all over the world. We will continue to actively advance initiatives to respect the human rights of all those involved with the SUBARU Group.
