FHI Introduces the Newly Developed
SUBARU General Purpose Engine "EA-V Series"
- To Start Making a Full-Scale Entry into the Vertical Shaft Engine Market -

Tokyo, November 10, 2010 - Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles and industrial products, today announced to start making a full-scale entry into the vertical shaft engine market, which has the scale of 12 million engine sales annually mainly in North America and Europe, by adding the newly developed air-cooled, overhead cam (OHC), vertical shaft engine "EA-V series".

The EA-V series is the vertical shaft engines, which are widely used in the lawn and garden equipment market, have been developed on the assumption that they are equipped as a power source mainly to consumer products such as lawn mowers, tillers and household pressure washers. The EA-V series offers the sophisticated exterior design, as well as the user-friendly designs such as lighter weight and lower noise & vibration to reduce customers’ strain, and the central layout of operational parts such as a choke and fuel cock for ensuring easy start.

Furthermore, the EA-V series adopts the chain-driven OHC (Overhead camshaft) system as with the EX series, which has been received well as a power source for small construction machinery or power generators, compressors and riding mowers, so that the EA-V series derives the durability and reliability of our general purpose engines, which have been traditionally reputed in the professional-use equipment market, while the engines meet the U.S. EPA and CARB emission standards that are the most stringent regulations in the world.

EA190V, the first engine of EA-V series, has been jointly developed by FHI and Chongqing Rato Power Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "RATO", located in No. 99. Jiujiang Rd., Shuangfu District, Chongqing, Board Chairman: Zhu Lie Dong), and the production is undertaken by RATO. The joint development has realized the high quality of the product by taking advantage of RATO’s capabilities on the price competitiveness and FHI’s know-how on the quality control system that has been developed by the substantial experiences on the professional-use products.

The EA190V is unveiled at the EIMA show (International agricultural/gardening equipment show), which is held from today (local time) in Italy. In addition, as the second engine of EA-V series, EA175V is under development at present aiming to launch the production and sales in next spring.

FHI operates the general purpose engine business in its Industrial Products Company. With these new additions, the company aims to further bolstering its engine business as a global engine manufacturer who can flexibly and promptly respond to the diverse needs of customers through enhanced product lineup.
