Subaru LEGACY Awarded "GRANDPRIX 09/10" in "JNCAP"

Tokyo, April 21, 2010 - Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the manufacturer of Subaru automobiles, today announced that the LEGACY was awarded "GRANDPRIX 09/10" in JNCAP* for fiscal 2009. This is the third consecutive year Subaru received the honours, after the IMPREZA was awarded "GRANDPRIX" for fiscal 2007, and FORESTER and EXIGA were awarded "Excellent Car" for fiscal 2008.

The LEGACY is the only vehicle to be awarded the GRANDPRIX 09/10 of JNCAP. It was rated as the safest passenger car in the collision safety performance tests for driver's and front passenger's seats as well as pedestrian head protection performance test during fiscal 2009. The LEGACY reached level 4 in the rear seat passengers' protection performance evaluation during a frontal offset collision test, and level 4 in the whiplash injury protection performance evaluation test respectively, which were both newly-adopted evaluations from this fiscal year. MLIT** and NASVA*** conduct new car assessment every fiscal year aiming at encouraging the use of safe automobiles by increasing users' interests in automobile safety and by promoting the development of safer cars by manufacturers.

This award adds up to a string of safety awards previously attributed to the Subaru LEGACY, and further establishes its global status as one of the safest passenger cars on the market. It was recently awarded 2010 "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) in the US, and reached top 5-star for occupant safety in the latest round of crashworthiness testing by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). It also got top 5-star rating in European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP).
