Fuji Heavy Industries Starts Subaru Sales in the Philippines
through GM AutoWorld

Tokyo (February 19 , 2001)

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. President Takeshi Tanaka has announced that General Motors Automobiles Philippines(GMPh), GM's subsidiary in the Philippines, will distribute the Subaru vehicles through their GM AutoWorld retailers.

Since the agreement of the comprehensive strategic alliance between FHI and GM in 2000, FHI has a broad cooperation with General Motors in a number of areas and both companies have been working together to realize the benefits of the alliance. Though both companies are making progress in such areas as development and purchasing, GMPh is the first GM operating unit that will distribute the Subaru vehicles as a result of the cooperation in sales and marketing.

GMPh will sell Subaru Forester through GM AutoWorld retailers. The automobile market is expected to grow and the small SUV segment, which includes Forester, is one of the most promising segments in the Philippines. FHI has seized the opportunity presented by the GM alliance to redevelop its marketing strategies and further strengthen the Subaru brand in the Philippines and other Southeast Asian markets.

The details of the operation, including target sales volume and prices will be announced at the time of the Subaru launching scheduled this spring.
