Looking at total consolidated automobile sales for the first nine months of the term ending March 2010 in comparison with the same period of the previous fiscal year, we see that the total number of passenger cars sold in the domestic market increased by 0.1 thousand units. This includes a sales increases of 6 thousand units for the new Legacy, 0.6 thousand units for the big changed Impreza, and 0.3 thousand units for the Dex, which offset the decrease of 4.4 thousand units for the Forester and 2.4 thousand units for the Exiga. Overall minicar sales saw a year-on-year decrease of 11.9 thousand units as sales for all models declined across the board. Overall domestic sales dipped 11.8 thousand units on a year-on-year basis.
In overseas markets, sales were up 21.2 thousand units in the U.S. with an increases of 15.7 thousand units for the new Legacy, 13.3 thousand units for the Forester, which offset 3.9 thousand units decrease for the Impreza and the 3.9 thousand unit drop for the Tribeca. Performance in the Canadian market was up by 4.7 thousand units due to growing sales of the Forester and the Impreza, which offset the decrease for the Legacy and the Tribeca. The Russian market suffered a drop of 18.7 thousand units in sales due to suspended shipments of all models other than the new Legacy as a result of inventory adjustments. The European market also saw sales decline by 20.8 thousand units due to inventory adjustments prior to the September launch of the new Legacy. Sales in Australia were down 3.7 thousand units since the new Legacy had not introduced until September. Chinese market sales were up 15.8 thousand units thanks to increases of 11.6 thousand units for the Forester and 5.5 thousand units for the Legacy. Combined sales in all other markets dipped 12.4 thousand units due to declining sales for all models due inventory adjustments. These performance results combined added up to a total drop in overseas sales of 14.0 thousand units. Combined with the drop in domestic sales, overall sales fell by 25.7thousand units.
