The total consolidated domestic sales volume for the 9 months through the 3rd quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2008 decreased for all car models, except the Impreza, which released a new model in last June.
Increased sales of SI-Drive equipped turbo and 6-cylinder Legacy models fueled by a big change in May 2006 has slowed, bringing the Legacy sales down by 9.7 thousand units on a year-on-year basis. Forester sales dropped by 1 thousand units since new models are not expected to affect sales until the 4th quarter, while the Impreza sales were up by 6.7 thousand units. The total number of passenger cars dropped by 4.9 thousand units.
The total number of minicar sales decreased by 11.3 thousand units. Stella was down by 2.2 thousand units, Pleo by 4.3 thousand units, R2 by 0.9 thousand units, R1 by 0.4 thousand units, and Samber by 3.5 thousand units. Overall domestic sales dipped by 16.2 thousand units on a year-on-year basis.
Regarding the overseas market, in the U.S., although the Forester’s outgoing models saw a 1.3 thousand unit decrease in sales, the Legacy was up by 4.0 thousand units, Impreza by 0.4 thousand units and Tribeca by 3.2 thousand units for a total increase of 6.2 thousand units.
In Canada, led by a growth in the Impreza sales of 1.6 thousand units, all model sales were up with a total increase of 2.4 thousand units.
In Europe, a 7.5 thousand-unit increase in the Russian market compensated for a sales decrease in former Western European countries, with a total increase of 5.7 thousand units.
In Australia, sales of every car model increased except outgoing Forester, with a total increase of 1.1 thousand units.
In other regions, total sales of the Forester and Tribeca were up 2.4 thousand units led by the brisk market in China, and other favorable markets including Singapore and Chile resulted in a 11.2 thousand-unit increase.
The above shows that an increase in overseas markets of 26.7 thousand units compensated for a drop in domestic market sales, resulting in a total increase of 10.6 thousand units. |
