The consolidated number of units shipped for 9 months from the first to third quarter of fiscal year ending March 31, 2007 can be broken down as follows:
The number of domestic sales saw a decrease for all models except the Stella. Following a major facelift for the Legacy in May, sales of the SI-Drive equipped turbocharged and six-cylinder types increased, but all other types of this model struggled to compete, with a sales decrease of 4.5 thousand units compared to the same period of last fiscal year. Sales of other models were also down, including a 3.9 thousand unit decrease for the Impreza and a 4 thousand unit decrease for the Forester. As a result, the total number of passenger car decreased 13.3 thousand units. Minicar sales rose by a total of 9.4 thousand units due to a net sales increase of 34.4 thousand units for the new Stella, but sales of other models fell, with the Pleo down by 11.5 thousand units, the R2 down by 9.1 thousand units, the R1 down by 1.6 thousand units and the Sambar down by 2.7 thousand. The increase of minicar sales could not offset the decrease of passenger car. Finally, overall domestic sales fell by 3.9 thousand units.
In overseas markets, the U.S. market saw sales dip by 4.4 thousand units in total, with the Legacy down by 2 thousand units, the Forester down by 6 thousand units and the B9 Tribeca down by 4.6 thousand units, despite a sales increase of 8.6 thousand units for the popular Impreza as a small passenger vehicle. In Canada, the sales of the Impreza were also robust, but a fall in sales for all other models led to an overall decrease of 0.9 thousand units. European sales edged up by 4.7 thousand units thanks to favorable sales of the Impreza and Forester. Australian sales saw a balanced increase for all models except the Impreza, with total sales up by 1.0 thousand units. In other areas, sales in China and Singapore were especially favorable leading to an increase of 1.2 thousand units. All this led to an overall increase of 1.5 thousand units in overseas markets. However, a 3.9 thousand unit drop in domestic sales resulted in the combined sales decrease by 2.3 thousand units.
