Consolidated sales for the third quarter of the term ending March 31, 2006 saw a total decrease of 1.2 thousand units with year-on-year sales of domestic passenger cars declining by 1.4 thousands units for the Legacy and by 4 hundreds units for the Traviq, whose production has already been terminated, despite an increase of 7 hundreds units for the Impreza. Sales of minicars were down by 5.2 thousands units in total with sales declining by 3.1 thousands units for the R2 and by 1.6 thousands units for the Sambar. This drop could not be offset by the increased sales of the R1 and the Pleo. Overall, 5.2 thousands less units were sold.
In overseas markets, US sales for the B9 Tribeca and the Forester increased by 8.8 thousands units and 1.9 thousands units respectively while sales for the Legacy and the Impreza dropped by 10.7 thousands units, balancing out the increased sales. All this, along with a dip in the sales volume of the Saab 9-2X, resulted in total US sales falling by 1 hundred units. Sales in the Canadian market declined by 1.1 thousand units due to lagging sales of the B9 Tribeca. Sales in Europe were up by 2.3 thousand units thanks to increased sales of the Impreza and the Forester by 3 thousands units after undergoing a major face lift, which offset the declined sales of the Legacy and Justy by 7 hundreds units. In Australia sales rose by 6 hundreds units with continued steady sales of the Impreza and the Forester. Consequently overseas sales increased by 6.1 thousands units overall. This offset declining domestic sales and the decrease of 1 hundred units after discontinuing consigned production at SIA, bringing total sales to almost the same level they were for the same period of last year.
