Total consolidated sales for the first half of the fiscal year ending March 2011 was 331.2 thousand units, up 88.4 thousand units compared with the same period of the previous fiscal year.
The total number of cars sold in the domestic market increased 9.1 thousand units. Passenger car sales increased 4.2 thousand units year on year due to the effect of the eco-car tax reductions and purchase subsidy. Minicar sales also increased 4.9 thousand units.
In overseas markets, sales were up across the board. Sales in the U.S. and Chinese markets were robust and rose on a year-on-year basis and in other markets as well as the production and shipment adjustments was implemented in the same period of the last fiscal year. The overall sales jump was due primarily to increased sales of the new Legacy, which were up 56.8 thousand units, as well as a 19.2 thousand unit increase for the Forester despite the fact that it has been over two years since it was given a full model change. Sales of the Impreza were also up 7.2 thousand units. These increases brought total sales in overseas markets up by 79.3 thousand units.
