The total consolidated domestic passenger car sales volume for the first half of the fiscal year ending March 2010. In Japan, minicar sales dropped 12 thousand units on a year-on-year basis as all models’ sales declined. Sales of passenger cars fell by 2.8 thousand units. Despite the sales increases of 4.6 thousand units for the new Legacy and 0.9 thousand units for the Dex, it was not enough to offset the decrease of 8.3 thousand units for other models. Overall domestic sales dipped 14.8 thousand units on a year-on-year basis.

In overseas markets, sales were up 16.4 thousand units in the U.S. with an increase of 7.3 thousand units for the new Legacy and a 14 thousand units jump for the Forester. These increases were able to offset declining sales of the Impreza and the Tribeca which fell by 1.9 thousand units and 3 thousand units respectively. Sales in the Canadian market were up 1.1 thousand units due to growing sales of the Forester and the Impreza, which offset the decrease for the Legacy and Tribeca. The Russian market suffered a drop of 15.1 thousand units in sales due to suspended shipments as a result of the inventory adjustment. The European market also saw sales decline by 19 thousand units due to the inventory adjustment prior to the September launch of the new Legacy. Sales in Australia were down 5.4 thousand units since the launch of the new Legacy had not taken off until September. Chinese market sales were up 6.9 thousand units thanks to increases of 5.8 thousand units for the Forester and 1.9 thousand units for the Legacy. Sales in the other markets dipped 9.7 thousand units due to declining sales for all models due the inventory adjustment. These results brought total overseas sales down 24.9 thousand units. Combined with the drop in domestic sales, overall sales were down 39.7 thousand units.
