Regarding the consolidated number of units sold in the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2009.
In Japan, the number of car sold decreased by 1.4 thousand units in total. In detail, the 2.2 thousand units increase from Forester, which underwent a full model change at the end of last calendar year, and 1.1 thousand units sales of Exiga, the multi passenger vehicle introduced in June, offset a decrease from Legacy and Impreza, bringing an increase of 0.2 thousand units. However, minicars decreased by 1.7 thousand units because there were no new models launch.
Overseas, the consolidated unit sales increased by 9.7 thousand in total. In the US, sales from January to March increased by 0.6 thousand units, an increase from Legacy, Impreza and Tribeca covering a decrease from the older model Forester. In Canada, unit sales decreased by 1.1 thousand, affected by a decrease from Forester before the full model change. In Russia, it increased by 4.9 thousand units (+167%) compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, helped by an increase from Impreza and Forester of 1.9 thousand and 2.4 thousand respectively. In Europe, it increased by 3.7 thousand units due to an increase from the launch of Legacy with boxer diesel engine and new Forester by 2.7 thousand and 1.1 thousand respectively. In Australia, it increased by 2.1 thousand units thanks to increases of 1.6 thousand new Impreza, and 0.8 thousand of new Forester. In China, Forester increased its sales by 2.2 thousand units. In other regions, the number decreased by 2.4 thousand.
As described above, the consolidated number of units sold increased by 8.3 thousand in total, owing to an increase by 9.7 thousand overseas benefiting mainly from effects of new models, despite a decrease in Japan.
