Fuji Heavy Industries Unveils New Subaru Impreza
for Europe at the Paris Motor Show

@ Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd. (FHI), a global manufacturer of transportation and aerospace-related products and the maker of Subaru automobiles, announced the debut of the 2003 model year Impreza for the European market at the Paris Motor Show 2002. The new Impreza, a base model for the Subaru Impreza rally cars that compete in rigorous WRC (World Rally Championship) events, is being displayed at the FHI stand in the Paris show from its first press day on September 26. This occasion marks the world's premier of the Impreza with a major facelift since its full model changeover in August 2000.

@ The new Impreza features a streamlined frontal design, incorporating the expertise and know-how of the Subaru World Rally Team (SWRT) in the development of rally cars. The newly designed front end is more aerodynamically efficient with reduced drag coefficient (Cd) and optimized front and rear balance of lift coefficient, thereby improving overall driving performance and meeting crucial requirements for the design of rally cars.

@ The exterior design of the new Impreza expresses sophistication and originality by adopting a new front bumper and headlights, as well as rounder, redesigned front fenders with the look of greater volume and thickness. Improvements in engine output and quickness of response ensure a high level of engine power performance, and enhanced chassis rigidity and reengineered suspension dampers also increase driving stability.

@ Also displayed at the Paris Motor Show is the prototype of the Subaru Impreza rally car that is being developed by SWRT.
